DCS Essentials was founded June of 2021, but its story began two years earlier.

On May 7, 2019, my life was changed forever. I was admitted to the hospital for emergency brain surgery to have a tumor removed. The location of the tumor caused fluid to back up in my brain, creating dangerous swelling. The Neurosurgeon NEEDED to relieve the pressure and remove the tumor in order to save my life. As preparation for the surgery, they had to shave me completely bald! The surgery lasted up to twelve hours. They had tubes running from my head down my back to drain the fluid off my brain. When I finally woke up, I began a month-long stay in the hospital. It was a difficult and uncertain time, filled with physical challenges, recovery, and learning how to navigate a completely different reality. My head was wrapped with bandages to cover the many stitches and staples that were used to seal in the titanium screws and plates, along with the other  surgical areas. 

I remained in the hospital  for about a month after the surgery. I had to go through physical therapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy. I had to relearn simple things like walking again, how to dress myself, and how to put two sentences together that made sense.  However, the real challenges occurred after coming home, but with the help of THE LORD, I was able to overcome all the challenges I faced, and would eventually face the coming days, months, and years.

As time went by, I noticed that my hair was trying to grow back, however it was bone straight! I wore a short curly style, but there was no curl in sight. Concerned, I began to seek THE LORD on what to do about my hair. HE led me to watch YouTube videos where I found a lady who is a licensed Cosmetologist, Trichologist, and Dietitian. From her I learned about my first natural ingredient...rice water! After learning how to make it, I began using it on the little bit of hair I had on my head. Low and behold, my hair began to return to its natural curly state! 

As I continued to research YouTube, I noticed that a lot of African American young ladies had long, thick, strong, healthy and vibrant hair that grew from their scalp! This really peaked my interest! I learned that they were using Ayurvedic herbs, assorted carrier oils and butters that I've never heard of, and essential oils. As I began using these products, my own hair began to grow and thrive. Others who knew me saw how my hair was growing and enquired about help for their own hair. Small tinctures of hair oil given out to others turned into my small business called DCS Essentials, LLC!
